Man United vs Chelsea: How Blues could line-up in Frank Lampard’s EPL debut as manager

The Blues set to kickoff their 2019/20 Premier League campaign with an away trip to Man United.

The match will be a real test for Frank Lampard as he begins his tenure as new club boss – Christian Pulisic is expected to be handed his EPL debut after joining the west London club.


Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante is facing a race against time to full fitness ahead of his side’s Premier League opener against Manchester United. Antonio Rudiger and Willian are the other players who remain doubtful for the United trip.

The Blues will face United at Old Trafford on Sunday, August 11, in what would be Frank Lampard’s biggest test since taking over as club boss. Despite the injury concerns, Lampard has an otherwise fully fit squad to select from, with youngsters lined up to feature.

The Stamford Bridge outfit did not make any signing in the summer owing to a transfer ban slapped on them by FIFA.

Christian Pulisic is the only new face at the club, having signed for them in January 2019 months before the ban was imposed.

And with the absence of Eden Hazard who sealed a dream move to Real Madrid in the summer, the former Borussia Dortmund star will be expected to fill the Belgian’s big shoes.

How Chelsea could line-up against Manchester United.

UGC Kepa Arrizabalaga will definitely keep his place in goal, with Cesar Azpilicueta, Kurt Zouma, Christensen and Emerson expected to provide cover in defense.

Jorginho and Kante could be partnered in midfield alongside Mason Mount, Pedro and Pulisic who will play in the wing.

Tabby Abraham will be tasked with the responsibility of hunting for goals upfront as the main striker.

Manchester United will host rivals Chelsea in their first 2019/20 Premier League game which will be Lampard’s first competitive encounter as manager.
